Collabrative chapter: My ideas regaurding "Technology of writing-
the impact on human evolution''
*Topic decided by team 1*
The team I have been assigned to has chosen to research the impact
writing has had on human evolution. After reading the chapters in one of my fellow classmates webpages I had realized I was
missing a whole aspect to my chapters that could have made them a little bit more complex. Brad Adragna had chosen many of
the same topics throughout the semester as myself however, after reading his final webpage I have to give my teammate
credit. I especially liked the way he performed the research himself , for example when he used the clay to exemplify Cuneiform
writing. My teamate as well as myself chose to explain why each of our topics were significant in producing today's
form of writing. The topics I had chosen throughout the semester I feel I know a lot about , I also feel they have greatly
impacted today's society. Although there were some differences in the research and reasoning behind each topic's importace,
some of my teamate's work as well as my own share common beliefs. This chapter of the course I personally like due to the
allowence of opinons and discussion reguarding similarities of my team and my own work.
Throughout the semester I had chosen to research- Alphabets, Cuneiform
writing, The Rosetta Stone, Hieroglyphics and cave paintings. Each topic allowed me to understand the meaning and importance
that influences writing and life today. In one way or another a common similarity is apparent. All the topics I have researched
in some form or another, although some simpler than others have changed or impacted today's society. I agree with my
teamates introduction to a degree as well. He also feels that technology is changing everyday, and even back in ancient times
technology and inventions were rapidly changing and growing.
Alphabets I personally feel are one if not the most important creations
of all time. Without the idea of a letter or symbol system there would be no formation of words. Without the formation of
words we would not have the writing, typing or communication system we have today. With today's world being so complex and
technical one tends to forget that it all started somewhere. I often believe we look past the importance of such simple yet
imperitive inventions such as the early Eygptian and Greek alphabets.
Even before alphabets there was another important factor in
the evolving of current communication-cave paintings. Cave paintings are extremly interesting because they are near impossible
to find. The caves that did have ancient paintings are closed to the public or have been destroyed throughout the years. Cave
paintings were one of the first ways to write or tell stories. Because the alphabet system was not created yet, the ancient
eygptians told stories through paintings of animals and hunting. The paintings were believed to show the value and importance
of animals in ancient times. Cave paintings had eventually evolved into other forms of writing but the concept and idea of
those paintings are still used today. Humans today can understand the way ancient people lived through the few remaining paintings
that have been recovered. I thought my teamate had some information that was really interesting to read. I was unaware that
the ancient cave paintings were used to commincate with spirits.
Hieroglyphics and the Rosetta Stone were two other important aspects
of ancient times. Hierogyphics were one of the first forms of symbols used to describe someone or something. It doesn't get
any more influential than the original formation of symbols to communicate. The Rosetta Stone was a document with three types
of texts carved into it. These text's desribed gods and pharohs and is an extremely valuble artifact today.
Whether it was the first alphabet, formation of symbols or
painting, each and every aspect of ancient inventions reguardng comunication all helped form our communiation system of today.
The way people write, the words formed by letters, the way we paint is all originated back to ancient times. Although
times are constently changing society can always put a time period and place to where it all originted. However, with technology
booming it is scary to wonder what will be after all the laptops, cell phones and other forms of communiation.
After picking this topic and reading over my partners final collabrative
chapter I would say we have a lot of the same feelings towards the impact technology and writing have had on society.
The only thing I thought my teamate could have done a little bit different would be for him to explain how each topic
effects society or as evolved insted of just a brief description. Overall I enjoyed this class , and felt my team and I did
a successful job completing the tasks given to us, such as a webpage and collarbative page.
