For numerous years human beings have crossed many difficult paths regaurding careers, school work or any other type of creative task. People such as writters, teachers, doctors or even a elementary school student have all at one point or another had to  work extremely hard or really think in order to solve their tasks. However, what they do not think of is the actual complexity of the simple tools they are using while completeing these tasks. To think, people in earlier stages in life actually had to use rocks, sticks and other natural resources to get by. As years went by and life progressed, technology began to improve more and more.
People today do not realize how imperitive the simple tools we use in everyday life are. Tools such as pencils, pens, computers etc. These tools make our jobs all the easier. But how did people survive before these objects were invented? After conducting an experiment it became apparent how difficult times were before technolology evolved. While growing up I was always a little baffled about those little brown rocks found on the playground, did they really write or  was that just an urban myth. As I became older it never really crossed my mind again however, that idea seemed to be perfect for this experiment.  The experiment is simple, to try and use natural resources to write "text" and the "text" written should desribe the tool being used. I stopped and thought for a minute, "where did I recently see those little rocks?" Then it clicked orient point beach on my way to Mohegan Sun.
After searching for a bit I fianlly found a rock that looked similar to the ones I use to see on the play ground. I dipped the rock in a cup of water and began writting on another rock. It really worked a reddish-brown color "paint look" was covering the rock. My next task was to see how many words I would be able to write out before having to re-dip the rock. I was able to write out the first 5 words. "The rock feels smooth...". I dipped the rock again and began writting again.  i had realized that the rock was alot more difficult to write with then lets say a pen. Letter such as "o" or "c'' were extremely difficult, becasue every time you lift the rock it alomost needs to be dipped again. It became apparent to me that although this process was about 20 times slower and less convienent then a pen, that it was exposing text.
It was really interesting to understand that people did have ways to comunicate in a non verbal way even in prehistoric times. That a simple resource such as a rock could do the same job a twelve-hundred dollar computer does. My fianl qustion was, "how long will this writting last?" I brought the rock I wrote on home with me and put it on a window sil. The "paint" semed to dry a few minutes after I wrote on it. although when dry the wrtting looked a lot lighter and a little harder to read it was still visible. The rock acted as a successful writting tool.
