Woman and Sports-

My team and I had chosen to disuss how sports have evolved throughout time. There are may factors reguarding sports that have drastically changed throughout the life of sports. The topic I chose to discuss is a topic that I personally feel is extremely imperitive to society today. There have been numerous ways that sports have changed both negatively and positvely. Some ways sports have changed throughout time Include politically, financially, emotionally, and physically. Sports are in everyone's life in some way or another which makes it one of the most infamous events of all time. Sports not only entertain millions of people on a daily basis but is an important role in many children's childhoods. Sports are not only a fun hobby but a tactic when it comes to teaching others teamwork and dedication. However onefactors that has had some negative as well as positive result in sports is the two topic I have chosen to discuss in my group. Women reguarding sports, I feel very passionatly about. Being a women that has always been interested in sports I personally feel this topic is one of the most important when discussing changes in time in reguards to sports.

When most people think about sports they think of the major league teams. However there is a very important aspect most people are forgeting about. Woman. Most professional sports consist primarily of men, however, woman work just as hard and compete just as much as men do. Not to sound cliche, but I have personally coached cheerleading as well as field hockey and noticed first hand women do put an infinite amount of agression and dedication. The recongniton has improved over time but is still not nearly enough. Woman in the past had a label to do or be certain things, but as times becomes more complex and technology improves, woman feel it is time for them to to be a part of something so important to society. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/womeninsportstimeline.html
One of the first events that proved woman are capable was the 1943 womans baseball league. Throughout that time the men went to war and somebody had to do the entertaining, and the women did just that.  After women began performing in the olympics and proved they could also be a part of this multi-billion dollar industry legal matters began. In 1993, there were lawsuits against the California State University system due to discrimination against woman's sports. After these alleged lawsuits the state began providing more funds, better equipment and generous scholorships. "We're very pleased with the results of our internal report on gender equity in athletics," said John D. Welty, president of Cal State's Fresno campus.

An important factor that is missing is the simple question...How did these Woman prove themselves worthy of the same respect men's sports receive??

Some of womans achievements -
 Jackie Joyner-Kersee 1962-
Won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals over four consecutive Olympic Games.

 Dorothy Hamill, Figure Skating 1956-
Olympic gold medalist and three-time national champion

'1943' WOMEN'S BASEBALL LEAGUE

Manon Rheaume was the first woman to play in a major professional sport when she started for the Tampa Bay Lightning against the Blues in 1992.

Another event that I personally feel influenced me a great deal may not seem as important as the others. I live in a town called Miller Place, and this year the highschool girl's field hockey team made it to states. They became the best team on long island this year after a dozen or so vigorous playoff games. The amount of people that attented the games and the publicity the team received in the paper blew my mind. Something so small in the big picture proved girls sports can be just as big and popular as guys.

Women have come a far way in the sports world. Colleges and universities are becoming just as notorious due to their division one sports for women. Scholorships are taken very seriously. Scouts now look for women as well as men due to the amount of talent and the on the rise popularity. I personally believe it wont be long before we see women entering the world of professional sports. Women, I believe will lead the U.S. to a co-ed major league sports league in the near future.
